To mark the release of his fifth studio album 5IVE, Davido teamed up with Spotify to throw an exclusive fan experience in Lagos. The event, held at Ona Restaurant, brought together 50 superfans and a handful of media partners for a rare, up-close moment with the Afrobeats superstar.
But getting in wasn’t as simple as just RSVPing—Spotify made fans earn their seat at the table by answering a five-question quiz about Davido’s music. Those who passed were rewarded with an afternoon of music, conversation, and unexpected moments.
Hosted by culture curator Ireculture and soundtracked by SmallztheDJ, the vibe was warm and fun. True to form, Davido made a dramatic surprise entrance after teasing a no-show, sending the room into instant chaos.

Spotify’s Victor Okpala (Artist & Label Partnerships Lead, West Africa) said the event was all about bridging the gap between artists and their listeners. “Working with Davido on 5IVE highlights not just the global rise of Afrobeats, but the deep bond between him and his fans.”
One of the standout moments was cosy roundtable chat where fans shared their reactions to the new project, during which 10 Kilo quickly emerged as a crowd favourite. Guests also walked away with gift boxes packed with merch from Nigerian streetwear label Severe Nature, who designed the official 5IVE looks.
Reflecting on this chapter in his career, Davido said: “When you see artists like Beyoncé, Drake, Kendrick Lamar, and Rihanna, you realise the work it takes to get there. This time, I wanted to go all out, and I’m seeing the results.”
With Spotify data showing over 12 million playlist adds in the last year alone and a fanbase spanning Nigeria, the U.S., the U.K., South Africa, and France, this intimate event deepened Davido’s connection with his dedicated fanbase and his position as one of Afrobeats’ leading voices.
