Afro House Finds Its Lagos Signal in Kembe

Wacpeople and WINTAR Studios launch a movement of rhythm, unity, and Lagos energy.

Afro House has long lived at the edges of Nigeria’s nightlife — pulsing in underground clubs, whispered in niche playlists, celebrated by DJs who knew its potential. Now, the sound is stepping into the center with Kembe, a Lagos-born project that translates the global language ofHouse into something unmistakably Nigerian.

Kembe, which means togetherness, is more than a collection of songs. It is a movement led byWacpeople and WINTAR Studios, two creative forces shaping Lagos’ cultural future. At thehelm are Fawole Peters of Wacpeople and Natse Jemide of WINTAR Studios — curators, builders, and believers in what happens when communities create without limits.

The project began as an eight-day camp where producers, vocalists, and percussionists cametogether to build something new. Over twenty tracks were created; ten will form the first release.Already, two singles are out in the world: Eko Groove, an unfiltered rush of Lagos’ chaos andjoy, and Joy Anthem, a declaration of unity through rhythm.

Eko Groove carries the fingerprints of Kevin LNDN and Deepercusion, pairing sleek productionwith layered percussion that channels the city’s restless heartbeat. Joy Anthem takes a differentroute: built by SoundsOfAce, Chiiii, and Deepercusion, the track incorporates the gongon,Nigeria’s talking drum, to heighten its energy. The result is a sound both ancient and futuristic —Afro House rooted in tradition yet designed for global dancefloors.

For years, Afrobeats has been Nigeria’s loudest export, with Alte carving its own lane along theway. But as audiences expand their tastes and seek new experiences, Afro House stands readyto claim its place. Kembe is that claim — a living, breathing example of what Afro House can bewhen rooted in community and culture.

Wacpeople has been steadily building one of Nigeria’s most committed creative communities.WINTAR Studios has emerged as a space for sonic exploration and boundary-pushingcollaborations. Together, they are not only amplifying a genre but pushing a cultural shift.

Kembe is Lagos saying: there is more to our sound, more to our movement, and more to thefuture of African music. And with Eko Groove and Joy Anthem already sparking attention, thefull project promises to be a defining moment for Afro House on the continent.

Afro House has found its Lagos signal. It is called Kembe.
