Two of the most dynamic voices in Afro-fusion and hip-hop are joining forces once again. Maka and Phlow have officially announced their reunion with the reveal of striking cover art for their new single “Lose My Mind,” marking their first collaboration in nearly a decade.
The highly anticipated track, produced by acclaimed beatmaker Teck-Zilla, represents a full-circle moment for the trio. Maka and Phlow last worked together on “No One” in 2016, a collaboration that showcased their natural musical chemistry and left fans eager for more. Now, eight years later, they’re back with a powerful new energy that promises to push creative boundaries.
Since their last joint effort, both artists have evolved significantly. Maka, known as the “Queen of the Stage,” has released multiple acclaimed projects including Love Songs and Alcohol (2021) and Moments In Motion (2023), blending afrosoul, jazz, funk, and neo-soul into her signature sound. The Nigerian-born, UK-based artist has built a reputation for electrifying live performances with her band, “One Band Like That,” while also launching her jewelry line, Mika by Maka.
Phlow, a UK-based emcee with a computer science degree, has established herself as one of Lagos’ most respected lyricists. After her 2016 debut EP Mind, Body & Phlow under Str8Buttah Productions, she’s released several critically praised projects including Gloria (2019) and Marmalade (2020). The first Nigerian female emcee to be featured in The Source Magazine, Phlow has earned recognition from MTV Base, HipHopDX, and Elle Magazine (France), while serving as a judge for the Hennessy VS Class Artistry competition.
Now reunited in the UK, the two artists are channeling their growth and experiences into a bold new sonic direction. “Lose My Mind” is just the opening salvo — the single serves as a precursor to a full-length joint album that will fuse hip-hop, soul, and experimental sounds.
