Inside The Mind Of MARGÉ

What does “MARGÉ” sound like in three words,no genre names allowed?

Again. Bargain. Rosé.

If your sound were a city, where would it be and why?

If my sound were a city, it would be Wakanda. Though fictional, Wakanda powerfully symbolizes Afro-futurism, ancestry and progress. My sound reflects an uncolonized mind and a deep knowledge of self, rooted in identity and cultural pride. Like Wakanda, it holds strong moral values and layered messages, blending the soul of home with the spirit of the diaspora.

You describe MARGÉ as a universe, what rules or vibes exist in that world?

In the universe of MARGÉ, there are guiding principles and a distinct atmosphere that shape everything within it

    Rules of the Universe:

    • Faith in God and Integrity
    • Growth and Self-Improvement (both personal and collective)
    • Compassion and Upliftment
    • Innovation

    The Vibe of MARGÉ:
The energy of MARGÉ is rooted in kindness, honesty, and a calm confidence. It’s a space where intelligence and creativity thrive, and where people are encouraged to be both thoughtful and easygoing in their interactions.

How do you know when a song is done in your universe? Or is nothing ever really finished?

In my universe, a song feels “done” when the message I set out to convey is clear—when the words resonate and invite reflection. If a listener is nodding along to the beat while lost in thought, unpacking the meaning behind the lyrics, then I know I’ve achieved what I intended. That said, nothing is ever truly finished. I see songs as living expressions—each listen could spark a new interpretation, even for me

You blend multiple genres, what’s a combo that surprised even you?

While no specific genre combo has caught me off guard, working within certain genres themselves has definitely surprised me. Highlife, for instance, isn’t a style I naturally gravitate toward, but I found myself creating a highlife track last year—a humorous piece that I grew unexpectedly fond of, though it’s still unreleased. Similarly, experimenting with Reggae, Dancehall, and Fela’s style of Afrobeat has led to some unexpected creative sparks.

What part of your heritage shows up the loudest in your sound?

The most resonant part of my heritage in my sound is the rhythm and richness of African traditions. You hear it in the languages I weave into my lyrics, the layered percussion that grounds my music, and the ancestral wit I inherited from my father—a kind of clever storytelling that’s uniquely African. I also carry the weight of old African values.

Who’s an unexpected artist that inspires you musically or visually?

Tupac, Mary J. Blige, Nina Simone, Erykah Badu, Kenny G, and Yanni. While their styles are incredibly diverse, each of them brings a distinct emotional depth and creative vision that resonates with me.

      • Tupac’s gift of storytelling
      • Mary J. Blige’s soulful strength
      • Nina Simone’s fearless artistry
      • Kenny G’s atmospheric calm
      • Yanni’s cinematic soundscapes
      • Erykah Badu’s fearless individuality
Together, they shape how I think about sound, feeling, and expression.

MARGÉ is more than music, it’s a message. What’s one thing you always want listeners to take away?

      Think outside the programme.
Recognize the systems at play, the puppet masters behind the scenes, and choose to disconnect from the “decepticons”. There’s no excuse to stay blind in an age of information. Seek the truth. Know the truth. Live the truth. There’s urgency in this message. Stay alert. Stay ready.

If MARGÉ were a film, who would direct it?

      Mel Gibson.

Your visuals feel intentional, what role does fashion or styling play in your storytelling?

Fashion in my storytelling, helps set the tone and atmosphere of each narrative. Through styling, I merge elements of my cultural heritage with modern, urban aesthetics, creating a visual language that reflects my identity and environment. It also serves as a time marker.

Which comes first: the music or the moodboard?

The music. I wake up to sound first, either words or a melody, and from there, the story begins to take shape. Then the moodboard — the visuals, the imagery — follows. It’s as if the sound sketches the emotional landscape, and then the images fall into place to complete the picture.

Your aesthetic is bold yet minimal, how do you balance the two?

In a controlled, intentional way that complements the clean layout, I prioritize clarity , and garnish with vivid colours; So the viewer sees the main image (message), while been “serenaded” with the “garnishing” – vibrant colours and shapes. I liken it to a bride, and her bridesmaids.

What’s your dream venue or festival to bring the MARGÉ experience to?

My dream venue is the minds of people. While this might sound unusual, my goal is to reach as many individuals as possible, not just have people come to me. I aim to bring truth into their lives in a transformative way—inviting a deeper connection with God that they may have never imagined before. It’s about impacting people where they are and guiding them toward something greater, both personally and spiritually.

What can fans expect from a MARGÉ live show, sonically and visually?

Fans attending a MARGÉ live show can expect a dynamic experience that engages both the mind and the senses. It will be a chance to leave feeling both mentally recharged and emotionally energized, all while enjoying an unforgettable experience.

If this is just the intro, what does Act II of MARGÉ look like?

Interestingly, what you’re seeing right now is actually my Act II. Act I has already unfolded, and Act II is where I am currently navigating. As for Act III, I await the revelation of what is to come.
