With Elon Musk’s first child named, X Æ A-12, simply called “X”, and celebrities like Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz with kids named, Genesis and Egypt, it’s safe to say weird names are the new cool for celebrities.
The Western world does seem to have a different opinion as regards naming a child and has decided to go with the unconventional side of things. We have seen them name their children after elements, Planets, Figures, Cardinal points, and whatever it is you could think of. Weird right? We also thought so.
This article focuses on American celebrities, who have gone on to name their kids the weirdest names possible.

1. A$AP Rocky and Rihanna – (Riot, RZA)
The music icon, entrepreneur, model, and actress, Rihanna, welcomed her second child with her superstar rapper boyfriend, A$AP Rocky on Thursday, 3rd of August, 2023. In fact, news was reported by major news outlets such as TMZ and People. According to sources, the couple named their second son Riot Rose Mayers.
This comes after their first son was named, RZA Athelston Mayers as a sign of respect to the Wu-Tang Clan’s de facto leader, RZA, while the middle name is the same as Rocky’s, whose given name is Rakim Athelaston Mayers.
Many have wondered why the business mogul would pick a name such as Riot to name an innocent child. Well, who are we to judge?
2. Beyonce and Jay Z – (Blue, SIR)
The music powerhouse and couple, who have gone on to illuminate the paths of others in the entertainment industry clinched a spot on our list. This only owes to the fact that they chose a name like Blue for their first child, BLUE IVY CARTER, who now choreographs for her mom, Beyonce.
While we thino of Blue as a color, however, Queen B and her man had other plans. She was born on the 7th of January, 2012. But just two days after her birth, Time dubbed Blue Ivy Carter “the most famous baby in the world”.
In conclusion, the Carters also have twins with rather unique names; Rumi, named after Sufi poet Rumi, and son, Sir. Weird right?
3. Cardi B and Offset – (Wave)
So, after the birth of their first child, Kulture Kiari, Cardi B, welcomed a male child in 2021 and proceeded to name him Wave.
Apparently, the name, Wave was suggested by the Migos rapper. In 2018, Cardi announced their divorce but later called it off. We have seen this happen quite several times. In conclusion, these celebrities seem to thrive in scandals if you ask us.
4. Kim and Kanye – (North West)
Let’s throw it back to when American socialite and controversial public figure, Kanye West named his first child, North. In fact, Kim’s mother, Kris, chose the name, North, making it one of the weirdest kids’ names ever.
5. Erykah Badu – (Puma, Seven, Mars)
Erykah Badu is not a regular mum and as such does not do bare minimum names. The 52-year-old American singer, rapper, songwriter, record producer, and actress named her three children Puma Sabti, Seven Sirius, and Mars Merkaba.
