Born Prayer Osarodion Imade and hailing from Edo, Nigeria, GRNDMSTR’s love formusic ignited at age 9, when he started singing and taking guitar lessons in his church.
WeTalkSound sat down with the talented rapper & producer to learn all about him. Enjoy!
What sparks your creativity when writing songs?
Generally it’s my environment, and the things and people around me.
If your music were a color, what would it be and why?
To be very honest, it might just be every colour on the colour wheel, because I see myself as a little bit of everything in music; if I had to pick a colour though, it’d be green, it’s my favorite.
If your music was a specific culinary dish, what would it be & why?
Again, just like with colours, I’m more or less an all-you-can-eat buffet, but specifically rice with any serving at all.
What’s the most meaningful song you’ve written and why?
It’s not out, yet, but it’s a song about me, and how I’ve started making music.
Who are your musical influences?
I have a lot, but specifically, M.I Abaga, LADIPOE, Lecrae, Sarz, Masterkraft, J. Cole, Jon Bellion, the list goes on
How do you prepare for a show?
Prayer. Cheezy cuz that’s my first name, huh? Well that’s how I’d prepare, because I’m nothing without God.
What’s your go-to karaoke jam?
I don’t really have one, cuz I listen to a bit of everything. Just gimme a song and I’ll sing it if I know it well, lol.
Which genre or era of music influences your style the most?
Hip-hop. And afrobeats. Predominantly.
What’s the best fan gift or message you’ve received?
People telling me that I’m good at what I do, even while I had just started out. That will always be special.
Advice for other rising stars like you?
Keep working. Keep showing up. Don’t give in to the discouragement, or the setbacks, they’ll pass.
