“Living In Bondage”

“Living in Bondage” may have been released 5 years ago, but I can’t fight the urge to give Ramsey a standing ovation every chance I get to speak about the movie. The genius that is Ramsey Noah took Nollywood to a whole new level when he directed this sick movie. How does one man make “voodoo” so damn attractive?

The story talks about a young man who faces severe crisis after his thirst for power makes him dive deeper into an occult group.

“Living in Bondage” was originally released in 1992/1993, and was directed by Chris Obi Rapu. It starred legends like Kenneth Okonkwo and Nnenna Nwabueze. 

“Obara’M” – My Blood

Hollywood and Bollywood should please take several seats black as Nollywood takes center stage in this solid Igbo movie, titled, Obara’M. Obara’M, which translates to my blood in the Igbo language, tells the story of a mother attempting to reconcile with her abandoned daughter. 

Through music, the movie drove different emotions that ranged from sadness, love, anger, and happiness. Kayode Kasum takes directorial credit for the movie Obara’M. It was released on the 26th of August, 2023.

The character Oluchi was played by Nancy Isime and Ihunaya by Darasimi Nadi, the child star actress.

“Mami Wata” – Water Goddess

Remember when we used to be scared of “Mami Water” as kids? There were a gazillion stories told about it. In this case, “Mami Wata” is a brilliant Nollywood drama in black and white, which singles it out from its counterparts. The cast is packed with seasoned actors, such as Rita Edochie, Evelyne Ily, Uzoamaka Aniunoh, Emeka Amakeze, Kelechi Udegbe, and Tough Bone.

Rita Edochie played the intermediary between the Mermaid goddess, Mami Wata, and the people of Iyi village, a peaceful fishing village in West Africa. Their lives take an unexpected turn when Jasper, a dreadful mercenary, controls the village. “Mami Wata” was directed by C.J Obasi.

“The Bride Price” (Igbo)

Okechukwu Oku takes us on a journey into the life of a barely educated spare part dealer. He cuts off his wife’s family after he was made to pay through his nose for her. Despite her father’s reluctance. The movie has an amazing storyline and great reviews. 

“The Bride Price” is the kind of movie you will watch and get sad when it ends. The role of the groom was played by revered actor, Zubby Micheal, while the bride was played by Beverly.

“Rattle Snake” – The Ahanna story (Igbo)

The Ramsey Noah produced movie, “Rattle Snake” – The Ahanna Story is a remake of the Amaka Igwe 1995 classic. And you know how remakes never live up to expectations but somehow, this movie blew our minds.

The movie is a heist story and like many other heist storylines, it is action-packed. It’s the story of a young man who is deceived into taking the shortcut by rubbing the life he has always dreamt of.

He assembles a group of criminal-minded people like him, and that’s where it all gets interesting. If I were you, I’d add this igbo movie to my weekend watchlist ASAP!
