Many of us cannot wait to port into the new year, as we’re already tired of the amount of shege experienced in 2023.
We can all relate but you know year-end shenanigans would only be complete with looking at some of the funniest events that went down this year. There were quite a number of them, however, these 5 stood out to us.
1. Fake Soy
By now, we all are aware of the pandemic that has hit the country, and it’s the pandemic of Fake Products. On the 22nd of December, 2023, NAFDAC exposed some fake wine production companies and people began to double-check their Asian condiments and realized they had been buying fake soy and oyster sauces.
AMOY is the original brand, but the majority found brands like AMOY’s, AMOYc, AMUY, and AMQY, in their kitchen cabinets. This threw social media into a frenzy and a gazillion memes erupted from this singular event. Skitmakers jumped on the trend and gave us something to laugh about for days.
2. Married Men Rizz
Earlier on in the year, married men in Nigeria made a very ballsy statement in terms of fidelity, saying you can’t sideline us because we still got game. A Twitter trend went viral about 2 months ago where Nigerian ladies shared their experiences at the hands of married men. Many hilarious responses hit cyberspace shared.
We had the ones where the men described their wives as their sisters, some even said mentioning their marital status was not necessary. Others revealed they got kidnapped into marriage and they were seeking escape routes. Another said he kept his status hidden due to shyness. At this point, we were all tapped out from keeping up with the trend, humor truly is the best medicine
3. Boy Math Vs Girl Math
Thanks to Twitter, we never would have known there was a thing such as Boy Math vs. girl Math. It’s a phenomenon where both genders view situations differently in a way that makes sense to them.
An example of Boy math is “Being afraid of gold diggers when you only have 3 pairs of socks to your name.” While girl math is “packing for a 14-day trip on a 7-day trip”. This was so hilarious that many automatically became math experts. We had people come up with lines like girl math is being 1 hour late, while boy math is being 10 minutes early for the same event.
4. Burna and Stefflon Don Allegedly Getting Back Together
Burna Boy and Stefflon decided to join the list of celebrities who have gone back to their exes in 2023. The likes of Stormzy, Toni Braxton, and Janet Jackson to mention a few.
These two dated between 2019 and 2021 before they announced their final split. Now, their split was not regular. Every once in a while, you’d hear shots fired from one party to the other, so much so that the self-acclaimed African giant had to release a song to this effect “Last Last”.
Only for us to wake up one morning and the internet had us in disbelief, after news of Burna Boy allegedly gifting Stefflon a Rolls Royce for her 32nd birthday went viral. Rumor has it that they’re back together. Someone explain this to me because this math ain’t mathing! Online inlaws are yet to get a full exclamation for this.
5. Josh2funny at American’s Got Talent
It is a fact that Josh2funny is one of Nigeria’s most talented comedians and skitmakers. He never fails to deliver and even when you think you’ve seen it all, he comes through with an innovative idea.
Sometime in August 2023, Josh shared with Punch Newspaper that he got invited by the organizers of the Reality TV show, America’s Got Talent for some comic relief.
“I was invited to the show to do what I do. I went there to display ‘Josh2funny’, which is what my comedy is about.” Many had expected that Josh would be a bit different on the show, given such a huge platform but went agog watching his realness shine through as always.
